In this oddball comedy, young Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe) sets his eyes on getting a college scholarship from the Bushwood Country Club where he works as a golf caddy. But this means he has to suck up to the man in charge of the scholarship, Judge Smails (Ted Knight). Meanwhile, he continues to take lessons from the club's pro, Ty Webb (Chevy Chase) in order to improve his game. When rich, boorish builder Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield) joins the club, the whole place gets turned upside down in a comedy of errors. As a hilarious subplot, crazed groundskeeper Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) matches wits against a particularly tenacious gopher.
