In Abilone, a little city in Arizona, the people are having a problem that threatens everyone’s future. Ed Cunningham (John Ericson) is a newsman who has issues with a dishonest man, Clinton Stark (Arthur O’Connell). Dr. Lao (Tony Randall) and a circus then arrive in town. Ed has fallen for a woman called Angela Benedict (Barbara Eden), a librarian. Angela’s son, Mike (Kevin Tate), becomes a friend of Dr. Lao, who is thousands of years old and has a lot of wisdom to share with the boy and the others. Dr. Lao is also Merlin the magician, who also performs his act for the people.
